Functional Behaviour Assessments
Understanding behaviour to support meaningful change.
A Functional Behaviour Assessment, FBA, is used to understand why behaviours occur and what needs they communicate. At BMe Supports, we use neuro-affirming and trauma-informed approaches to identify triggers, strengths, environmental factors, and patterns that influence behaviour. The goal is to support safety, dignity, skill development, and quality of life rather than control or punishment.
An FBA includes intake, information gathering, observation, and collaboration with participants, families, and relevant professionals. This may involve interviews, review of reports, behaviour pattern analysis, and identification of strengths and stressors. Findings inform Interim or Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans that focus on proactive strategies, environmental adjustments, skill-building, and, where required, the ethical management of restrictive practices, in line with NDIS Quality and Safeguards requirements.
FBAs support children, adolescents, and adults with disabilities, neurodivergence, psychosocial disabilities, trauma histories, and complex support needs. Assessments can be delivered in-home, at school, at the workplace, in community settings, or via telehealth Australia-wide.
Funding is available through NDIS Improved Relationships or Capacity Building budgets, when aligned with your plan, and private options are also available.
